Can you tell Kendall was ready to start solids!? Look at how excited she got before I even put the plate down 😂. She did so well eating solids for the first time! We chose to combine baby-led weaning (BLW) with purées to introduce food. This approach allows her to explore various textures and flavors early on, which can reduce the chances of picky eating. By feeding herself, she also practices her fine motor skills! I gave her a slice of avocado (BLW approach) and some mashed avocado (purée texture) on her plate, and added some on a spoon for her to grab and self-feed. I couldn’t believe she figured out what to do completely on her own! Babies are so smart! Until babies are one year old, breast milk or formula remains their main source of nutrition, with solids being supplemental, so I’m not concerned about her eating a certain amount right now; it’s all about exploring and learning how to eat, chew, etc. This approach works for us, but there’s no right or wrong way to start solids as long as it’s safe (ask your pediatrician or research safe feeding guidelines, as I am not a feeding expert 😉).
