Recent studies have revealed that mothers, especially working mothers, have some of the highest recorded cortisol (stress hormone) levels, with being a mom alone equated to working 2.5 to 3 full time jobs. Being a mother means little to no time to oneself, constant interruptions, cleaning, loud noises, etc., which all naturally increase cortisol levels. Also, working mothers have the added stress of balancing multiple roles and the constant inner battle of “mom guilt”, which contribute even more to elevated cortisol levels.
