Making fractions easy and fun at home! 🌟 This hands-on matching puzzle introduces children to the concepts of one whole (1) and one half (1/2) through clear visual models and simple word representation. Instead of memorizing, children see and build the concept, helping them truly understand what fractions mean. Subtraction with regrouping becomes so much easier when children understand why we borrow. We always begin by comparing the ones place. Here, we look at 7 and 9. 7 is smaller than 9, so we cannot subtract - more on the floor (the bottom number), we go next door. We borrow 1 ten from the tens place. That 10 comes to the ones place and becomes 17. Since we already gave one ten away, 5 becomes 4. Now we subtract: 17 − 9 = 8 4 − 2 = 2 Answer → 28 ✔️ When regrouping is shown visually like this, children stop memorising steps and actually start understanding the concept. If you have a child in Pre K to Grade 2, you need a ten frame at home. Ten frames help children see numbers instead of memorizing them. 👉They build real number sense. 👉They show how numbers relate to 5 and 10. 👉They lay the foundation for addition, subtraction, and fact families. Before children work with equations, they need to understand quantity. How many. How close to 10. What makes a number bigger or smaller. Ten frames do exactly that. They help children stop counting one by one and start recognizing numbers as groups. That shift is a major turning point in early math. If your preschool math is mostly counting and number tracing, we need to talk. 👇🏼 ⚠️Counting to 100 does not mean your child understands quantity. ⚠️Tracing numbers does not build number sense. And number sense is what predicts long-term math success. When I taught older students, the kids who struggled with multiplication, fractions, and problem-solving had one thing in common: ⚠️They never built quantity understanding early. They memorized. They didn’t internalize. In STEAM Made Simple Preschool, math is not worksheets. It’s: ✅filling five-frames on the floor ✅comparing real objects ✅building and measuring ✅predicting and testing ✅seeing numbers as amounts, not symbols Symbols come last. Meaning comes first. That’s why kids in this program don’t just “do math.” They understand it. If your child can count but freezes when asked “which is more?” that’s a foundation issue. Fractions made simple ✂️📄✨ We can all agree… this is one whole piece of paper. When you fold it in half, it’s still one whole, just split into 2 equal parts. That’s why we write 1/2 — it means one part out of two equal parts. Fold it again and you now have 4 equal parts. It’s still one whole piece of paper, just divided into quarters. So 1/4 means one part out of four equal parts.
