Repeated forceful combing results in mechanical trauma to hair strands resulting in split ends - Reduce use of heated styling tools, if you are going to use them then stick to a lower heat setting & use them sparingly I.e 1-2 times a week - Regular hair trims is one of the best ways to treat split ends because it essentially physically removes them. Here is what actually happens. Your hair is damaged. Damaged hair splits. It doesn’t matter where you cut, the compromised hair above was always going to split anyway. Whether you cut or didn’t cut is almost irrelevant. The damage is the problem. Not the cutting. If your hair is damaged and you don’t repair it, it will keep splitting. Always. A trim removes what you can see. It does not change the condition of what’s left behind. So the splits come back, not because they travelled up, but because the damaged hair above was never addressed. After working with hair for over 35 years, the clients who actually break the split end cycle are the ones who shift their focus from cutting to repairing.
