Lots of practice, not just you watching a person do something, which is a route to tutorial hell 📑 Codecademy - have a good free intro SQL course, they have a big production team for their content so it’s usually really good. Then practice, practice, practice. You don’t learn it by watching someone. You get your hands dirty and solve problems you’ll have in the real world with databases and add on the complexity gradually. if I were starting data analytics in 2026 I wouldn’t try to learn everything at once… one of the biggest mistakes beginners make is jumping between too many tools and courses, which just leads to overwhelm and zero confidence. this is what I’d focus on first ⬇️ 1️⃣ SQL (the basics) SQL is how you get data. I’d focus on SELECT statements, filtering, joins and basic aggregations before worrying about anything more advanced 2️⃣ Excel (or Google Sheets) Excel is still used daily in most analyst roles. I’d learn how to clean data, use formulas, pivot tables and create simple charts to explore trends. 3️⃣ A reporting tool (Tableau or Power BI) Not to make pretty dashboards but to practice explaining insights clearly. Being able to show what the data means is just as important as analysing it 4️⃣ Business problems not just tools Instead of asking “How do I learn SQL?” I’d ask “How would I investigate a drop in revenue?” Then I’d use SQL, excel and dashboards together to answer that question You don’t need to know everything to get started - just a clear learning order!
