Another guitar tuning that I'm exploring that has a half-step between two strings. Navigating scales is tricky in such a tuning, but it allows for some great chord voicings. Also, as I do in part of the video, you can play a unison melody on strings 1 and 2 by simply having your fingers one "fret" position apart. Most vaulters never learn this, but the run-up structure should change based on how many steps you use.
The last 6 steps are always critical, but how you set up those 6 depends on your total approach length. Here’s how to break it down: 12-step run = 6–6 pattern
 • First 6: build speed
 • Final 6: lock into posture, raise cadence, active pole drop 14-step run = 8–6 pattern
 • First 8: more gradual acceleration
 • Last 6: same rhythm shift into takeoff phase 16-step run = 10–6 pattern
 • Gives more room to accelerate while keeping a clean transition to the final 6 18-step run = 6–6–6 pattern (used by many elite vaulters)
 • First 6: powerful drive
 • Middle 6: upright, in-control posture
 • Final 6: maintain stride length, increase cadence, lower the pole in sync No matter the length, the structure is the same: the final six steps are non-negotiable.
