Aesthetic appeal Small, tightly bound feet, often referred to as "golden lotus" feet, were considered beautiful and delicate, according to ScienceABC and others. This aesthetic ideal possibly emerged from stories and folklore, such as the tale of Yao Niang, a court dancer who bound her feet to perform a crescent moon dance, popularizing the practice among elites. The resulting gait, a tiny, swaying walk, was also considered erotically attractive to some men.  2. Social status and marriage Bound feet were a symbol of wealth and prestige, indicating that a woman's family was prosperous enough to afford servants and that she didn't need to work physically. For families with marriageable daughters, foot size could be a form of social currency, increasing a girl's matrimonial prospects and potentially allowing her to marry into a higher social class.  3. Control and social conformity Footbinding severely limited women's mobility, keeping them confined to the domestic sphere and reinforcing traditional gender roles, thereby promoting submission and dependence on men. It was also seen as a "rite of passage" and a symbol of a girl's willingness to obey, according to Britannica.  4. On April 17, while descending from Camp III, around 5,800 meters, Anurag slipped. In seconds, he disappeared into a deep crevasse — a fall of more than 300 meters into one of the most unforgiving places on the mountain. The ice swallowed him whole. Most believed he was gone. But hope refused to die. For two days, in perilous conditions, a daring international team launched a rescue mission like no other. Climbers Adam Bielecki @adamtheclimberand Mariusz Hatala from Poland joined forces with Nepali rescuers Chhepal Sherpa, Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa, Dawa Nurbu Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, and Tashi Sherpa. From base camp, coordination was led by Chhang Dawa Sherpa @14dawa On April 20, nearly 72 hours after the fall, they descended into the crevasse — a dark, suffocating shaft of snow and ice — and found Anurag. He was unconscious, severely hypothermic, but alive. A miracle. The mountain had shown mercy. Anurag was carefully hauled out and was first airlifted to Pokhara, then flown to Kathmandu, where he received intensive care. Once stable, he was transferred to India for advanced medical treatment. Recently, a female blue-tongue lizard was rushed into our care after being severely injured in a dog attack. Despite the extensive trauma she suffered, our dedicated veterinary team moved quickly to give her and her babies the best possible chance. 👩🏽‍⚕️🩺 In an emergency procedure, our vets performed a lifesaving caesarean and delivered 20 tiny babies. How did all of these little ones fit in one lizard?! Each newborn needed immediate revival, and our team worked tirelessly to clear their airways, stimulate their breathing, and give them warmth and the support they needed to survive. We are incredibly grateful to share that all 20 babies pulled through and are doing well.
