As a straight natural, these are some things I actively disagree with!⬇️ 1. Heat is your hair’s #1 enemy: I’ve learned over time it’s not about how frequently you use heat, but instead how well do you prep your hair before applying heat & your technique! Keeping my hair stretched has allowed me to retain more length by reducing hair manipulation. 2. Heat trained hair can’t be healthy: While I feel my hair is heat trained, my curls are not damaged. My curls are looser but in my opinion my hair has never been healthier! Overtime I’ve learned what heat temps works for my hair and I don’t over use heat. 3. Heat protectants do not work: A lot of people feel that heat protectants don’t actually work and you’re better off just trying to use as little heat as possible to avoid damage. But as someone who does a silk press every week, I feel without heat protectants my curls would be nonexistent! Heat protectants don’t protect your hair 100% but with proper technique they help prevent a lot of heat damage. 4. Your ashamed of your natural hair texture: Just because I wear my hair straight primarily DOES NOT MEAN I hate my natural hair texture! My main reason for becoming a straight natural was simply to reduce my hair styling time! Curly hair girlies can agree that sometimes styling and maintaining curly hair can be alot of work, but when I wear my hair straight, I just wrap and unwrap my hair and I’m done! Straight Hair without Heat? 🤩 It's possible for most of you people (not for people with extreme curly hair, so sorry 🥺) . . . So here is the process- FYI- Straightener causes much more extreme damage to hair as compared to a blow dryer due to direct contact obviously. So this is what you can do- Step 1- Comb your hair so that there are no knots or tugs in the hair.(pre-wash) Step 2- Apply a leave-in Hair Cream especially rich in Keratin. Step 3- Wash your Hair as per normal routine (not upside down wash though) Step 4- Use a Microfiber Towel and gently press your hair, only to absorb excess water and make it semi damp. (Do not rigorously massage and dry with a towel that causes knots) Step 5- Comb gently with a wide tooth comb to remove all knots. Step 6- Blow dry on the lowest setting - you can use cool air setting also. Trust me, you're gonna love the results. Period. • I gently brush through tangles before straightening. Never run a straightener through knots. That’s how you snap strands. • Hair must be 100% dry. Not “almost.” Not “a little damp.” • Heat protectant is non-negotiable. And yes — I still use a lightweight oil on my ends after. Heat protectant protects from heat. Oil seals and smooths. They do different jobs. • One slow, controlled pass per section. The more you go over the same piece, the more damage you create. Straight hair should feel silky — not crunchy.
