They proved our brains don’t see isolated parts, but naturally organize information into complete, meaningful wholes. Structuralism is a way of understanding culture developed by Claude Lévi-Strauss, which argues that the diversity of human societies can be explained through a few deep, underlying structures. Influenced by linguistics, Marx, and Freud, Lévi-Strauss suggested that cultures work like languages—organized around binary oppositions such as nature/culture or raw/cooked. Myths, rituals, kinship, and symbols are not random; they are cultural systems that classify the world and help societies mediate contradictions within it. Soviet-time heritage is rarely appreciated in post-Soviet countries, and buildings are the most visible, most striking leftovers of a past both painful and unerasable. It is therefore a delight to see the headquarters of the former Ministry of Highway Design in Tbilisi in such great shape, renovated and appreciated worldwide. Now, unfortunately, it’s The Bank of Georgia (aka corruption paradise), and recording there was a living hell due to the amount of cars around it and a very persistent bodyguard. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗺 Architect: Nikoloz Lasareishvili Building year: 1978 Location: Tbilisi, Georgia 🇬🇪 There's not much to see here – at least not anymore. The Technical University's auditorium in Tbilisi is a wreck, and it seems like authorities want to forget it's still standing. There has clearly not been any effort put into maintaining the old university complex, and it's not only shameful for the reason that parts of it deserve monument status. What's more alarming is that people live in some of its buildings. Refugees from the war in Abkhazia and the Russian invasion of Georgia still inhabit the deteriorating complex that was supposed to be temporary accommodation...
