๐ The MTA's latest move in the fight against fare evasion is a new turnstile design that was put into place at the Broadway-Lafayette, Third Avenue and 138th Street stations this week. Once payment is scanned, the smart fare gates will open and let a rider through. If payment doesn't process, or someone tries to get through without paying, the gates won't open and a loud beeping noise will be emitted. 1010 WINS spoke to subway riders in NoHo, who had mixed reactions to the new design. "It feels like an airport," one rider complained. Another said that in terms of fare evasion, the smart gates "look like they'll do the trick, and they're probably more attractive."
