San Diego hikes you cannot miss | Part 1 - Sunset Cliffs Cave Hike The sunset cliffs hike is super short but a bit tricky since you have to climb down slippery rocks and walk through water! Make sure to check the tide levels and only attempt this hike when there is a negative low tide! Make sure to hike back in time too, we only stayed for about 30-45 minutes! ⚠️ This hike is not an easy one and can get tricky, so only attempt if you are experienced and confirmed negative low tide levels for at least 2 h! Coordinates of the start of the hike (32.7253778, -117.2584299) - South Clevenger Canyon Hike The South Clevenger hike is a scenic 6.4 miles long trail. The trails highest point offers panoramic views over the valley and the coolest part is that you can climb a boulder and sit on two metal chairs enjoying the views! - Oak Canyon Trail This trail is located at Mission Trails Regional Park and is about 3.2 miles long (out and back). During spring time you can spot tons of beautiful wildflowers and after a lot of rainfall you will see two waterfalls along the trail! I love that this trail follows a river valley with oak trees! #sandiego #sandiegohiking #sandiegogram #sdblogger #sandiegoblogger #hikingsandiego Best hikes in San Diego, San Diego hiking, hiking in California, California hiking trails, San Diego travel guide

This hike is only accessible during negative tide! Please don’t go without proper research and preparation. There are many directions online on how to reach the main cave, Sunset Cliffs. I joined a tour with a local guide @grangernature to see even more caves and epic views along the way. It was such an epic adventure 😍 Have you ever seen pink and green rocks?! Check the tide before planning your trip. Optimal tide height is around -1.5ft. You’ll need to hike in water and through the narrow passages. The views are absolutely worth it! Have you heard of this San Diego trail before?

Sunset Cliffs’ dramatic coastline is shaped by millions of years of erosion from wind, waves, and rain. The cliffs are made of soft sandstone, which wears away easily, creating the rugged edges, sea caves, and unique formations you see today. ©SoCal Nation® #socalnation #socal #southerncalifornia #socalblogger #socallife #socalliving #sandiego #sunsetcliffs #california #sandiegocalifornia #losangeles #orangecounty

If you’re looking for an epic thrill check out this cliff jump located at Sunset Cliffs. It’s about 25 foot high and is definitely a rush. Just be really careful jumping at low tide and be mindful climbing back up to the left of the cliffs because it’s very slippery. Highly recommend wearing water shoes for some grip on the rocks. When you jump off and swim to the right of the cliffs there’s this really cool hidden cave with stairs that was used to smuggle in rum during the prohibition days. Super cool spot and definitely worth checking out. #sandiego #summer #goodtimes #livelife #explore #adventure #beach #sunsetcliffs #coolplaces #hiddengems #cave #cliffjumping #reels #drone #onlydrones #dronevideo #vetsfordrones

Navigating to Sunset Cliffs Open Ceiling Sea Cave 📍 Sunset Cliffs Open Ceiling Sea Cave 1. Start at Luscomb’s Point: Begin your journey by walking to the end of Luscomb’s Point, where the surfers head down towards the sea. 2. Walk along the rocks: From Luscomb’s Point, navigate along the slippery rocks towards the sea cave. Be prepared to get wet as you make your way. ⚠️ Warning ⚠️ This sea cave is rarely accessible and can be dangerous to reach. The rocks are slippery and mossy, requiring good balance and stability. However, with caution and the right conditions, it is possible to hike to the cave. 3. Timing is crucial: Plan your visit during a negative tide, which is more than just a low tide. Aim for a day with a significant negative tide, like negative 2.1, to ensure safer access. Even then, expect to get your feet wet. 4. Safety first: Always leave the sea cave before the tide begins to rise to avoid being trapped inside. Swimming out is not a safe option. Know your limits, enjoy the experience, and prioritize safety above all else. 5. Remember, it’s all about timing, caution, and respect for nature. So, know your limits, take in the beauty, and stay safe out there. #Sandiego #california #travel #traveltips #viral #viralvideos #visitcalifornia #visitsandiego #hiking #adventure #wanderlust

🌅 Hidden steps to Magic – ‘1000 Stairs’ at Sunset Cliffs! 🌊 Descend about 120–150 steep stone steps down the famous “1000 Stairs” at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park and step into one of San Diego’s most photogenic coastal coves. 📍 Location: Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, Point Loma (along Sunset Cliffs Blvd, south of Ocean Beach Pier) 🪜 Stairs: Roughly 200 steps - dramatic, not 1,000, but feels every bit as epic 🌊 Views: Ocean cliffs, tide pools, surfers, and soft golden‑hour light 👣 Footwear tip: Wear grippy shoes; the stairs are uneven and can be slippery ☀️ Best time: Late afternoon to sunset for warm, glowing footage 📸 Perfect for: Reels, travel content and slow‑motion shots 🌊 Tide note: Low tide opens the beach and caves; high tide can block lower access—check a tide chart before you go 🚗 Parking info for this spot: • Free parking—no entry fee; first‑come, first‑served • Small dirt parking lots and street parking along Sunset Cliffs Blvd and side streets (Ladera, Adair, etc.) • Arrive at least 30–60 minutes before sunset; popular spots fill up fast • If lots are full, park in the neighborhood blocks inland and walk 5–10 minutes to the cliffs 🔖 Save this spot for your next San Diego trip! ➕ Follow for more hidden California gems! #SunsetCliffs #sandiegoviews #hiddengem #pointloma #californiatravel

The most unique place in San Diego (save for your future trip) To reach Sunset Cliffs Cave, you should look for an unmarked trail heading down to the shoreline near Luscomb’s Point. The descent to the cave is steep and requires some scrambling over rocks. You’ll know you’ve reached the cave when you see the large opening in the cliff face. ❗️Visit only during low tide when the cave is accessible, and always check tide charts (it should be negative), as the area is prone to erosion and high surf can cut off access to the cave.
