Yesterday, the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (SUVI) onboard NOAA’s GOES East satellite captured the sun’s largest flare of this solar cycle (lower right edge) with a magnitude of X8.7, according to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). According to SWPC, the effects of this flare could affect high frequency radio signals, which may experience temporary degradation or loss of signal on much of the sunlit side of the Earth.
