SUP Tip Tuseday! 💡 Here is the long requested paddling side view of SUP stroke with a little slow-mo section to get a better look. See the connection between hip and shoulder and the movement of the torso in the stroke? Notice the timing of the hips to the paddle exit? How about the bottom arm? How about the entry of the paddle to the water? Do you see any splash? Don't be afraid to rewind or replay to check it out a few times 😉 Hip drive is SO important, from long distance to sprint. In sprint it provides you power and in distance it becomes essential for efficiency and glide. If you watch any pro racers, regardless of their individual technique differences you'll notice they all utilize hip drive very well. -You've got an efficient chain with structural integrity from paddle to board without any extra movement. Unnecessary movement is lost power and wasted energy. -You want that hip drive initiated before the paddle exits the water, but there's a little wiggle room as to how far before the exit you can do this effectively, not too soon and not too late. Some of that depends on stroke style, speed and how much backend of the stroke you personally use. - Low splash or no splash entry. (the splash when the paddle is moving forward in the air is normal) Would anyone like to see a full speed sprint from the side? If there's enough interest I'll find a way to get one for ya 😉 This and my previous on the purple Blackfish were shot off an Outrigger Canoe, unfortunately they aren't able to keep up with me at a full speed sprint, they were shot at 7-7.5mph, so definitely not a distance pace but also not a sprint.
