Roger Hodgson performs “School” in São Paulo Brazil- Unk year I love what Roger says about music - he says it perfectly❤️ hoping this doesn’t get blocked🙏-only can play three minutes sorry. “School” is a song co-written by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson of British rock band Supertramp, and included on the band’s third and breakthrough 1974 album, Crime of the Century, of which it was the opening track. The song starts with a long, slow harmonica intro. Hodgson’s verse vocals are first only above his flanged guitar, and then an elongated, strummed guitar section before the song finally fully kicks in. Davies later provides a bright piano lead. It has been described as presaging a similar approach used on Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)”, a centrepiece of the band’s 1979 similar concept album The Wall. Hodgson stated that the song is “basically saying that what they teach us in schools is all very fine, but it’s what they don’t teach us in schools that creates so much confusion in our being. They don’t really prepare us for life in terms of teaching us who we are on the inside. SUPERTRAMP • TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME • 1980 “Take the Long Way Home” is the third US single and sixth track of the British rock band Supertramp’s 1979 album “Breakfast in America.” In 1980, the live version from Paris became a minor hit in various European countries. It peaked at # 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in late December 1979. According to its composer Roger Hodgson, the song deals with how the desire to go home can go both ways: “I’m talking about not wanting to go home to the wife, take the long way home to the wife because she treats you like part of the furniture, but there’s a deeper level to the song, too. I really believe we all want to find our home, find that place in us where we feel at home, and to me, home is in the heart and that is really, when we are in touch with our heart and we’re living our life from our heart, then we do feel like we found our home.” “Take the long way home” is a metaphor for the universal journey of self-discovery. What Crisis?’, Supertramp continues the 50th anniversary celebrations in their half-speed remaster reissue series with Even In The Quietest Moments…, Breakfast In America and ...Famous Last Words…. As per the first two releases in the series, all three records have been remastered at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
