I’m a metalsmith. And if you don’t know what that is, I’m about to show you… I haven’t introduced myself in quite some time, and there’s definitely a lot of new followers! So let’s do this. Hello, I’m Jen Surine (pronounced “Serene”, like the peaceful view 😉) I’m a metalsmith and I’m so thankful to be doing what I love. I get to form and shape metal with my own two hands into an edgy, yet glamorous, piece of jewelry that feels empowering when you slip it on. And I do all of this from my home studio in a small town south of Chicago. I’m best known for my “Openwork” designs. This is a sculptural technique that involves cutting and assembling pieces of wire to create dimensional jewelry. I’ve been developing this technique for more than a decade! I’m a native Michigander, I love spending time with my husband and two boys when I’m not in my studio. I’m a lover of sunny days, trips to the lake rock hunting, baking bread, and family walks to the local ice cream shop. I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a BFA, specializing in Metals & Jewelry. What would you like to know about me and my jewelry?
