It’s time to talk kettlebell swings!! I’m very excited to start sharing more of the conditioning exercises that I use in my programming with you all 🫶 The kettlebell swing can be an intimidating exercise to approach, and if you’ve tried it already kudos to you!! 🙌 Here are some little tips to keep in mind if you’re still not confident in your swing. ⭐️ Your force + energy should be transferring back to front along through the bell in a hinging motion (think pendulum). If you are moving it up and down, you’re likely squatting not hinging. ⭐️ When starting your swing, place the kettlebell a foot in front of you, hinge, grab hold, engage your lats, and pull the bell back through your legs. ⭐️ Aggressively squeeze your glutes to stand and exhale to engage your abs. This helps prevent you from leaving too far back at the top. ⭐️ If your kettlebell is smashing the inside of your thighs, you might not be hinging low enough. Improve Your Kettlebell Swing With This Exercise I was training @mj_van and @smurjani for the last part of their session and wanted to clean up their swing finisher so we stopped to do the dead stop swing variation. What I love about this variation is that: ✅ You can always set up a great start position and create the tension needed for a great rep. ✅ Because you reset every rep and coach it, you end up practicing great reps and not letting the set get out of hand with “so so” reps. ✅ Gives and opportunity to “feel” what the client needs to feel (packing shoulders, packed chin, glutes on stretch, hip above knees and shoulder above hips, etc) - and those positions can be held to ingrain how it should feel. ✅ A set of 10 reps this way is more challenging than a regular set of 10 swings because of the set up, tension, pauses, so it’s not really a “regression”. ✅ After doing a couple of sets of these, go back to a regular set of swings and see how much form has improved (video it to see the difference). 💭 The two things we tried to clean p here were ✔️ Shardaa sitting lower in here hinge ✔️ Martha staying tight a little longer at the top of the swing 👆🏼You probably won’t see those things here because they were cleaned up while doing the dead stop variation.
