One of the most common bugs we see when trouble-shooting switch ups is flyers struggling to engage the first lib shape before switching. RESISTANCE have been working on this ‘hop up’ drill to define that first lib and help bases gauge the right height and placement. This drill has flyers ‘hopping’ up to the stunt (no switch!) with bases & backs releasing and catching as they would in a switch up. It works from L1 & 2 braced switch ups, through to fully-released prep and extension at levels 3 & 4. We’ve seen better lib shapes, more precise foot placement, and cleaner arm action. Let us know if you see improvements from trying this drill too! . . . Description: video shows some of our RESISTANCE stunt groups working on a drill for their switch ups, where the flyers start with their left foot loaded in to bases, who dip, pop and catch the flyer at prep level. The flyers stand strong in a left-leg lib, which they hold through to being caught at prep-level. Text in white on the screen reads “DRILLS FOR SKILLS - SWITCH UP. HOP UP DRILL. Builds speed, timing, & stability for switch ups. Flyers stand to a strong lib on the 2 count. Pull the bent-leg knee up, with toe pointing down next to the other knee. Bases dip & drive together, pop and release, catch the same foot, absorb the catch.
