One thing you can't do when market prepping is start again. When you're working with a limited timeline, you want every small effort aimed at: the goal = market day. If you know a month or even a week in advance, the best course of action is to create a mental or physical checklist of everything you'll need to table/vend. This stack doesn't look like much, but it's currently worth over 5k in just plushies. I've been building it up in no real rush over the span of 2 months. Keep in mind this is my full-time job, and that doesn't include what I spent in supplies (which I have been tracking). Please do not compare, that is not it. The goal was to restock all of my small items that had sold out, plus test + publish around 9 patterns. This is only tagged makes and doesn't include the 2k worth of stock that is currently at the burrow coffee shop or the makes I have to photograph for patterns. It is, however, a lot. 7k of work in 2024. 1k of Yarn. I choose my makes based on these 4 Q's: 1. What are my price points? I like to work in $5 increments for the most part. Do I have 10 dollar items? No? Then that is what I need to make. 2. What do I want to make? This, for me, means the freedom to stay creative. Some people hate to make the same thing more than once (like I used to). I have fallen in love with it, and found a tangible excitement in making the same thing many many times. I'm out here surpassing personal speed runs daily. 3. What do I need to make? I ask myself what gaps I have in my inventory that I can fill? Have I sold out of X of a certain type? Yes? Then that's next on my to-do list. 4. What sells well? If you don't know, make what makes you happy, and that will shine on market day. As long as you are proud of your work and you price fairly, your patrons will see the worth in your product. One thing I suggest is to do with tagging for market: Don't wait until you're finished with everything to tag it. That has caused me so much stress. Tag in batches as you go and sort your items by price point (or similar items). That way, you can see what you have made or need to make as you tag. #tabeling #marketideas #handmade #crochetseller
