I started making beef suet cream a decade ago during my pregnancies to eliminate exposure to the chemicals in commercial skin creams. I then stuck with it because it was absolutely transformative for my skin. I really encourage you to try this recipe: it’s very affordable, very easy, and in my experience it is the best possible nourishment for your skin. Here’s how I make it: I render, or melt, 1 to 2 pounds of suet with a cup of water in a pan for an hour and a half. Make sure all the water is boiled off before you make the cream. I then strain the liquid fat, removing any bits of collagen or muscle meat in the product. I mix the fat with Argan oil in a ratio of one part of Argan oil to three parts of liquid fat. I add essential oils for scent - this is typically about 10 drops or so for a batch. Then, the most important part: I whip the suet slowly as it cools together with the Argan oil and this creates a very fluffy light cream. It takes a really long time for it to whip up and cool - about 3 hours!! That’s it! I ABSOLUTELY FORBID you to make this recipe with leftover beef fat from cooking or broth 😡! You will smell like a pot roast if you do that. I recommend you use fresh clean suet from a quality provider like @tangendraw or @stemplecreek. Suet is the best source of tallow for making face cream as the suet does not touch any of the musculature of the animal, it’s like a little soft fat pillow inside the animal and does not smell beefy as a result.
