Update Tanjung Aan On July 15, everything changed at Tanjung Aan. All the warungs were suddenly removed, leaving a lot of uncertainty behind. Local business owners were promised a new location, but so far, that promise hasn’t been fulfilled. Still, many locals chose to stay. At first with small cool boxes selling drinks and snacks, and later by adding a few simple sunbeds. Slowly, they started rebuilding in their own way. By now, most of the mess has been cleared and the beach is starting to feel calmer again. The first western beach restaurant has opened its doors, and another one is currently in progress. The atmosphere is shifting once again, but it still feels surprisingly local. What stands out is how busy it is. Both the small, improvised local warungs and the new beach restaurant are attracting visitors. It’s a mix of old and new, simple and more upscale. Hopefully, that balance will remain. A place where both worlds can exist side by side — where visitors can choose what suits them, and where the local community still has the opportunity to benefit.
