SS Frankenwald is one of the historic wrecks resting in the fjords near Gulen on the west coast of Norway. The German cargo ship sank during the Second World War and today lies preserved in the cold, dark waters of the Norwegian fjord. She is 122m long and almost 17 m wide. The wreck sits upright at 46 m depth. Diving here offers a rare opportunity to explore a piece of maritime history in an environment shaped by steep underwater terrain, cold water and often very clear visibility. The wreck has gradually become part of the surrounding ecosystem, attracting marine life typical for the North Atlantic fjords. ⚒️Mine exploration diving⚒️ - A Safe and Controlled Exploration In this reel, we take you behind the scenes of Maja’s first-ever mine exploration dive, where safety and control are our top priorities. As her surface support, my role is to ensure that everything runs smoothly, from pre-dive checks to post-dive recovery. Before the dive, I help Maja double-check all her gear, ensuring she has everything she needs and that there are no potential hazards. Stress management is key, so I monitor her state of mind, making sure she stays calm and relaxed. To prevent exhaustion, I carry most of the equipment—both before and after the dive—since post-dive exertion can be dangerous due to CO2 levels. During the dive, I keep constant tension on the guideline leading outside. This is a crucial safety measure; if the line ever goes slack, I gently pull it back so she can never get entangled, this because trying to find the entrance in chocolate milk is not an easy task! This dive isn’t just about exploration—it’s about teamwork, responsibility, and making sure Maja has the best possible first experience in exploration mine diving.
