Members of our Hazmat & Technical Rescue teams performed OSHA Required Annual Representative Confined Space Entry behind Fire Station 13 today. They simulated rescuing a man down in a sewer tunnel. 60% of confined space deaths are would-be rescuers.

Another solid day of Confined Space Entry & Rescue Training out in Eastern Ontario!👨‍🚒 From vertical shaft rescues to tight crawl spaces, our team tackled a variety of scenarios that challenged both our skills and our thinking. We tested out multiple patient packaging techniques—whether it was using harnesses, rescue litters, or backboards—and adapted them to the specific limitations of each space. The tripod system was put to good use as we practiced raising and lowering operations, just like you’ll see in the video attached. Every confined space presents unique challenges, and today’s goal was to work through them before the real emergency hits. What made the day even better? 🔥 RESCUE PICK OFF DEMO 🔥 SoFlo Instructors Chris & Nikko are demonstrating a pick-off for our rope tech class, doing a step by step evolution. In technical rope rescue a “rescue pick-off” is when a rescuer goes down to a victim to bring them back up. In this instance we’re simulating a worker that could have had equipment failure or medical emergency with a single dorsal connection. Process: The rescuer descends to the victim. The rescuer attaches the victim to a belay line to secure them. The rescuer can either haul the victim up directly, or use a mechanical advantage system to lift the victim and transfer the load from their original fall arrest system. When performing a dash maneuver on an Electric Vehicle, it is crucial to use the rocker panel as the main push point for your hydraulic tool. In this case, we are using a @hurstjawsoflife 40” spreader to perform a no-cut dash lift. On an EV, the rocker panels are designed to be very strong and rigid, protecting the battery against side impacts and providing the necessary structural support for the heavy battery. Conversely, the floor pan is not as structurally sturdy.
