If you have sensitive teeth, there are a few things I do differently straight away. First, I listen. Because sensitive teeth aren’t all the same, and neither are patients. For some patients, I use an anaesthetic spray. It gently numbs the surface and helps take the edge off before we begin. There’s no pain, although the taste isn’t great. It lasts about 20–30 minutes, and for many patients, it’s a game changer. For some patients, I use a desensitising agent. This calms the nerve and seals the tiny pathways that trigger sensitivity, so the tooth feels more settled during treatment and afterwards. And always, your nervous system sets the pace. Sometimes we slow down. Sometimes we split things into two visits. Both are completely ok. Comfort isn’t accidental.
