At the end of February 2026, villagers in Telangana uncovered something extraordinary hidden beneath a shallow forest stream. While working near the water, locals noticed a carved stone figure partially buried in mud and sand. As they cleared the sediment, the shape of a stone idol of Lord Vishnu slowly emerged—an artifact that had likely remained hidden for centuries. Experts later identified the sculpture as belonging to the era of the Kakatiya Dynasty, which ruled large parts of the Deccan between the 12th and 14th centuries. The idol displays classic features associated with Vishnu: an ornate crown, detailed jewelry, and the traditional four-armed posture representing divine attributes. Even after centuries in water and sediment, the craftsmanship remains strikingly visible. Discoveries like this raise an intriguing question—how did such a sacred idol end up in a stream? Historians suggest several possibilities. The statue may have once belonged to a nearby temple that collapsed due to floods or natural changes in the landscape. Another possibility is that priests hid the idol in water during times of conflict to protect it from destruction. Over time, the temple may have disappeared, leaving the idol buried beneath layers of soil and flowing water.
