Is rough-and-tumble play before bedtime intimidating because it overstimulates your toddler or child? You know that they sleep better once they fall asleep, but getting them to relax afterwards feels like a daunting task. Every child has a unique profile, but one thing we all have in common is the need for proprioceptive input to help our body relax at the end of the day. For some kids, adding vestibular input can be overstimulating altogether and should be avoided. However, for those high-energy thrill seekers, these two things combined in rough and tumble play are necessary in their daytime and nighttime routines if you want them to fall asleep and stay asleep. Suppose you notice your baby or child getting too excited right after rough-and-tumble play. Time it out so you have at least 30 minutes to give them time to unwind after you wind them up. 👉🏽 Move into a dimly lit relaxing space afterwards 👉🏽 Offer deep hugs and squishes One thing that can help right before bed is reading in the dark with a flashlight. It shuts off all other stimuli to the brain and allows them to focus on the one thing they should. Their book. This also helps their central nervous system relax when it’s time for lights out. "Highly Sensitive" is a temperament style that makes up about 20% of the population. 👨👩👧 Most parents will notice signs of this more reactive nervous system starting in infancy. 👏 The amazing thing about highly sensitive children, though, is that when they are brought up in an environment with caregivers who are attuned, warm, and responsive, they benefit even moreso than their more easy-going peers brought up with similar parenting style. Knowing this, and understanding our goodness of fit" (how our own temperament interacts with our child's) can be key to supporting your highly sensitive child and helping them to thrive. 🤱When I was a new mom (to a sensitive baby) I had no idea what "temperament" was. I simply thought my baby was harder than ANY OTHER BABY I had ever come into contact with, even though I thought my husband and I were pretty "chill" parents. Naturally I thought this meant I was doing a terrible job. 📚I wish I'd known back then that his temperament was simply more reactive, or more tuned into his environment- he wasn't trying to be a difficult baby. I wasn't failing. There were things that I could do to help both of us if only I'd known how much sensory preferences and temperament can impact sleep, feeding and more. #newbornbaby #newbornkids #newbornphotography #newbornstory #babiesofinstagram #babiesbabiesbabies #motherandbaby #birth #newmother #newmommy #newborntips #babytips #babyactivity #temperment #tempermentbaby

Understanding our children can be hard at times, especially when their personalities are the opposite of your own. For example, my middle child has a very different personality than I do. However, after figuring out that her love language is physical touch, I've been able to butt heads a little bit less with her. When I am angry or upset, I don't want anyone to touch or talk to me, but with my middle, that's exactly what she needs. Since figuring this out, whenever she gets angry or overwhelmed, one of the first things I do is ask if she needs a hug. The answer is almost always yes. Figuring out their temperaments, love languages, or learning style can all help us to be a better parent to our children. #momlife #lovemylittles #rememberingthesedays #temperment #lovelanguage

I didn’t know Kaiden was a high needs child when he refused to sleep anywhere but on my chest in the hospital. that’s because I was a naive first time mom and I didn’t understand the concept of every child having their own temperament simply bc I never experienced it myself. but boy was I in for a rude awakening. every time I would try to put him down he would immediately wake up screaming wanting that physical touch. he would never fall sleep unless I helped him and even then I was stuck there while he laid on me the whole time he slept. I thought he just needed time to adjust to the world but just sleeping on my chest in the hospital turned into sleeping on my chest for months and months to come. I know crazy right. I didn’t have a choice. I was told by so many people to do this and to try that. to sleep train and let him cry it out. but I did my best with what I could. it was confusing. very confusing. but I knew my baby and I knew not that he wasn’t normal but that he was different. that he required more comfort and security than most babies. it was exhausting. it still is. now at 2 years old we’ve never sleep trained because to do so to a child with high needs/high touch tendencies seems cruel. he still wakes up a handful of times to make sure somebody is there with him. we’re just not quite there to sleep independently yet and that’s okay. It’s something that was hard for a long time but I’ve grown to accept and nourish it instead of question and wish different. he has grown to be the brightest most amazing little boy ever and it’s okay that he requires more from me. It’s something I honestly take pride in. I’m his biggest advocate & understanding what he needs is my job. someday we will get there but for now it’s okay ❤️ follow @jessssskay for more ❤️ #realmotherhood #motherhood #highneedschild #difficult #spiritedchild #thetruthaboutmotherhood #motherhoodishard #sleeptraining #sleeptrain #temperment #toddler #attachedbaby #realspill #momtips #parenthood #parenttips #breastfeeding #breastfed

Listen here- Change your perspective, and change your outcomes. Start learning how to separate your emotions from logic. Certainly, it’s easier said than done. But this small strategy can boost your emotional intelligence, setting you apart from those around you. Remember, it’s not always the one with the sky high IQ’s who succeed in today’s world. Raw intellectual competence, interpersonal skills and emotional clarity are what breeds success. By taming your feelings with rational thought you open the door to responding with wisdom- and that changes everything. #emotionalintelligence #temperment #softskills #corporateamerica #workforcedevelopment #youngprofessionals #mindset #value

Mom dogs correcting their puppies is crucial for several reasons: 1. **Behavioral Development**: Through correction, puppies learn what is acceptable behavior within their social group. This includes proper play behavior, boundaries, and how to interact respectfully with other dogs. 2. **Social Skills**: Puppies learn important social cues and signals from their mother. These lessons help them understand canine body language and communication, which is essential for their interactions with other dogs throughout their lives. 3. **Discipline and Self-Control**: When a mother dog corrects her puppies, it helps them develop self-control and discipline. They learn to manage their impulses and understand the consequences of their actions. 4. **Safety**: Corrections can prevent puppies from engaging in dangerous behaviors. For example, a mother dog may correct a puppy if it wanders too far or tries to eat something harmful. 5. **Pack Order**: Corrections help establish the pack hierarchy. Understanding their place in the pack helps puppies feel secure and reduces anxiety caused by uncertainty. Overall, these corrections are part of a natural process that helps ensure puppies grow into well-adjusted, well-behaved adult dogs. @cherry.hoggs in case you need a video to react too 🤠🐾✨
