As a sewist, have you ever dream of designing your very own fabric???? It is possible! Yes and yes! Here I explore this method. But really, with patience, there is an infinite way to paint plants dyes on fabric. They are all super fun. It’s all about savouring the process. You know that feeling when all of life’ stuff disappears… Here is a break down of time for each section: •scouring and mordanting fabric: 4 hours over 2 days •let mordant cure for 1 week. Next: •putting tape on fabric: 6 hours •extraction of dyes: 3 hours for 5 different dyes(here I have logwood, cutch, eucalyptus leaves, sulphuric comos flowers and lac). •painting the dyes: 6 hours over 3 days. •let the fabric dry-cure for 3 days •setting the dye onto fabric ( prep and steam): 2 hours •peeling off the tape: 3 hours •last wash : 1 hour. Total: 25 hours of active labour over 1 month. But!!! I have one hell of a “one of a kind fabric” now! And the process is enjoyable at each step, I promise.
