As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, let’s shine a spotlight on the real stars of Disney’s Hercules: the Muses. Director John Musker wanted the Muses to function as musical storytellers, and gospel felt like the perfect fit for the film. Voiced by Lillias White, Vanéese Y. Thomas, Cheryl Freeman, LaChanze, and Roz Ryan, the Muses delivered some of Disney’s catchiest and most unforgettable songs. The roles were originally offered to the Spice Girls, but scheduling conflicts kept that from happening. The perfect voices were found in the end though.
