Come with us on our first therapy dog visit 🫶🏼 From the moment we walked in Pearl lightened the energy in the room. Staff coming up saying they needed her today, students asking to pet her in the hall between classes and smiling and laughing. There is so much power in animal assisted therapy visits and I’m so glad to share pearl this way. We left feeling like this was where we were meant to be. Pearl and I are a registered team with @intermountain.therapy.animals ❤️ Each dog’s training journey is so different but for us we did 3 rounds of obedience class and the canine good citizen test before doing our therapy dog course. Therapy dogs visit the Children’s Hospital 💛 Giving Tuesday is coming up, which is a day to contribute to creating a more compassionate and generous world. You can do this by donating to charities, volunteering, or even random acts of kindness. If you’re looking for an organization to support, I’d be honored if you considered @childrensnational. We’ve been volunteering here every other week for the past two years, and words can’t describe the positive impact that therapy dogs have on the children. I don’t think there is anything the world (medicine, therapy, etc) that can bring immediate joy to these children like therapy dogs do. This situation happened so quickly. I was focusing on the next reader when I saw Charlie stretch over to comfort the little boy. As you can see, I did not instruct Charlie to do this, he instinctively read the situation and reacted, leaning in and offering comfort and the little boy accepted it. In a moment things were instantly better. These are the things we see on therapy visits, and as a dogmom and handler, I am always amazed at the heart of this dog. #makingadifference #therapydog #dogslover #goldenlove

This is Annie. She is a dental therapy dog. Her job is to help patients that experience anxiety during exams by laying on their lap for emotional support. Her calm demeanor also helps lower blood pressure. Her human told us Annie’s role is very important at their dental practice, and that Annie’s favorite part of the job is “interaction with people and giving affection.” It’s kind of like if the tooth fairy was also very cuddly. 14/10 (follow @funny.bunny9215)
