Understanding Saree Thread Count: A Guide to 100, 120, and 60 Weaves What is Thread Count? It refers to the number of threads woven together per square inch of fabric. It's expressed as two numbers: horizontal threads (warp) and vertical threads (weft). Higher thread count generally indicates a finer, softer, and more durable fabric. 120 x 120: The highest thread count commonly found in sarees. Exquisitely soft, lightweight, and breathable. Best suited for special occasion sarees like Kanjeevarams or Banarasis. 60 x 60: A more affordable thread count, common in everyday sarees. Durable and easy to maintain. Suitable for sarees in heavier fabrics like cotton and linen. Thread count is an important indicator of saree quality, but it's not the sole determinant. Fabric Frequencies A dying person has a frequency of 15MHz. A healthy person has a frequency of 100MHz. Wool, linen, hemp and organic cotton have the greatest frequencies of all fabrics. Rayon, polyester, spandex, nylon not only have low frequencies, but some are synthetic and raise health concerns. These have chemicals like BPA, PFAS, PHTHALATES which are linked to thyroid disease, respiratory issues, cancer, inflammation, and more. Next time you shop for new clothes, choose high-frequency fabrics to stay healthy. Note: silk (from silkworms) has 15 - low‑frequency fabric. Lotus silk (made from lotus plant stems) has 500 MHz Here is the study behind the frequency: Everything in the universe - from the food we eat to the air we breathe is made of atoms that vibrate at different speeds. This vibration is what we call frequency. Most of these frequencies are beyond what we can sense, but they can be measured. In this study on fabric vibration, the frequencies were measured in angstroms (m) using a digital device called an Ag‑Environ machine. The Torah (first five books of the Hebrew Bible) even says you should not wear wool and linen at the same time. A Jewish doctor named Heidi Yellen was intrigued by this and did an experiment on fabric frequencies in 2003. Using the Ag‑Environ machine, she noted that a healthy body measures around 70–100MHz and 15 MHz for nearly dead person. She concluded that if the frequency of your clothes is lower than 100, it puts strain on your body, and if it’s over 100, it’s beneficial. She found that silk, nylon, polyester, rayon and spandex all had frequencies lower than 15 MHz. Here is the scientific study: Our skin has its own microbiome, just like our gut. In fact our skin is the largest organ in our body and hunders of spices of bacteria live on the surface of our skin. Natural fabrics like cotton and linen let it breathe and let sweat escape while tight synthetics like polyester and nylon trap heat, sweat, and irritate the skin which can disrupt this balance and worsen issues like psoriasis, eczema, acne or dryness.
