Don’t skip on flossing your molars!! I know, I know, molars are the trickiest part but hear me out. As a dentist of 7 years, the majority of cavities I am fixing are on the back teeth. I want to show you the easiest way I have found to hold the floss and reach my molars. Give it a few tries before you throw in the towel. This is something that you will get better with over time. How to Floss Correctly Start with About 18 Inches of Floss Break off a piece of floss about 18 inches long. Wrap most of it around one of your middle fingers, and the rest around the same finger on your opposite hand. This finger will take up the used portion as you go. Hold the Floss Tightly Use your thumbs and index fingers to hold the floss tightly, leaving about 1-2 inches to work with. Gently Guide the Floss Between Your Teeth Carefully slide the floss between your teeth in a gentle rubbing motion. Avoid snapping it directly onto your gums, as this can cause injury. Curve the Floss Around Each Tooth When the floss reaches your gum line, curve it into a C shape against one tooth. Gently slide it into the space between the gum and the tooth. Move the Floss Up and Down Hold the floss firmly against the tooth. Rub the side of the tooth, moving the floss up and down. Repeat this motion on each tooth, including the back side of your last teeth. Use a Clean Section of Floss for Each Tooth Unwind fresh floss as you move from tooth to tooth to ensure you're not transferring plaque or debris.
