for those who are curious, because i always love to see the aftermath of other people’s insane efforts on the trail! on day one, i hiked 40.9-ish miles, and on day 2, i hiked a little over 20 miles. that’s around 62 miles, or 100 km! this is the farthest i’ve ever hiked this quickly, and certainly the most i’d ever hiked in a day. the first day i used sockwell compression socks, and although they made a noticeable difference when it came to DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) on the second day, they also made my feet quite dirty. the second day, i went back to my tried and true darn tough socks, and that’s when the blisters came out to play. i don’t think it was necessarily the socks that made the blisters happen, but rather the dust and dirt that had accumulated in my altra running shoes, even with gaiters. TAHOE. IS. DUSTY. FOLKS. i had a nice little dirtbag tan which i always find too satisfying to wash off. when i peeled the leukotape off, i accidentally ripped off an entire blister (iykyk), but the other few weren’t too bad. still, the worst i’ve had since i was a dancer but hey! that pain is so temporary, and i’m decently proud of my first little fast packing effort. ultramarathon next?! also, what are your favorite sock/shoe combos for big hikes/runs?! #hike #solohike #blisters #solobackpacking #backpacking #fastpacking #ultra #ultramarathon #trailrunning #adventure #tahoe #tahoerimtrail

📍 Haute Route Pyrenees 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 🇦🇩 800 km | 500 miles | Crossing the Pyrenees Meet one of the toughest thru-hiking trails in Europe: the Haute Route Pyrenees (HRP) 🏔️ This trail, also called Haute Randonnée Pyrénéenne in French, is a high-level long-distance trail in the Pyrenees that connects the Atlantic and Mediterranean. It approximately follows the French and Spanish border and passes through Andorra. Please note that this is a very difficult thru-hike and high alpine crossing. Unlike the GR10 (on the French side) and the GR11 (on the Spanish side), the Haute Route Pyrenees stays higher and often goes off marked trails. It’s a route for experienced hikers who are comfortable with navigation, remote terrain, and self-sufficiency 🙏 The HRP can be completed in about 40 to 60 days, depending on pace and weather conditions. I’ll start off by saying how grateful I am for this community I have been able to build 🥰 I feel incredibly lucky and privileged that so many have wanted to join me on my adventures. I have had Instagram since its creation and had been consistently posting for YEARS. It felt frustrating at times, when I was sharing quality content and going on crazy adventures and thru hikes, that Ig wasn’t pushing my content in front of the right people. And then one day I woke up and one of my posts had blown up. Since then, my account has grown steadily and here is what I have learned: 1. Your viral post is already on your phone. No but seriously, I was always trying to get better pictures, crazier videos, and thought I had to get the next mind blowing image to get noticed. But no, all my viral posts were from pictures and videos I had had for years on my phone. In fact the last one was from a video taken in 2022!! 2. Photos are not dead! In fact, carousels have allowed me to grow a lot. I’ve gaine 20k followers from my pinned carousel. Don’t forget to add music so people can stumble upon your carousel in the reels tab! And maybe add some text over your images, so people know right away what you are posting about 3. Trial reels! Trial reels! Trial reels! An incredible tool for your content to reach new people. Post a lot of them, it doesn’t even matter how many, go ahead! And reuse your content, but change the captions because Instagram likes new things and will recognize copy pasted posts. 4. Captions are important! Hashtags are out but pay attention to SEO and use key words when writing your captions. That’s also where you’ll make your content « quality content ». Day 4 and I’m about to finish the first section. Yes I walked in Ramadan! I post my videos from my thru hikes after I finish because I don’t have power sometimes to charge my phone and editing takes time. This is your sign to chase that dream, even if it terrifies you. It just might change your life 💫 My first-ever solo backpacking trip was a 250-mile, 14-day thru-hike of the John Muir Trail in 2021. I went all in for my first night alone in the backcountry. In the weeks leading up to it, I was so nervous and I couldn’t sleep because I was constantly worrying about everything that could go wrong. But I prepared as much as I could and I went anyway. And it completely changed my life for the better. Solo backpacking is one of the most empowering experiences out there. You prove to yourself what you’re capable of and learn so much about who you are. Now, 3.5 years later, I’ve hiked over 4,000 miles solo and spent over 130+ nights alone in the backcountry. If you want to try solo backpacking, here are some of my tips! 🥾 Start Small: Start with solo day hikes and solo camping trips, and then work up to a solo backpacking trip. This is what I did! 🏕️ Know Your Gear: Practice setting up your tent (more than I did 😆) and using all your gear at home and on training hikes. 🗺️ Plan & Prepare: Research your route, check weather conditions, and have a backup plan. 💫 Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off, listen to your gut and adjust accordingly. 📡 Bring Navigation Tools & a Satellite Communicator: Bring a map, compass, and GPS or satellite communicator (like a Garmin InReach Mini which is what I always bring). 🌄 Embrace the Fear: Being nervous is normal. With every experience you’ll build more confidence. Did you know, Dobby [from Harry Potter] has an actual grave?!! . Nuts right?? On Day 9, I went there! Now although Dobby’s burial is fictional, the filming location used in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is Freshwater West Beach which the trail literally goes past, so so after the films release fans created a memorial in the dunes. There's socks, painted rocks, crosses, trinkets and gifts. Its actually wild! . Now I know not everyone watching this will be big on their thru hikes, so if youre in Wales, I got Chat to write directions from the carpark for you 😘 . Directions: 1. Park at Freshwater West carpark [free] 2. Walk toward the beach passing the lifeguard huhut. 3.beyond the hut there’s an opening in the dunes. 4. Walk through the dunes until you come to a pile of rocks. Here you will find dobbys grave.
