Jaw clicking or stiffness when you open? Comment “QUIZ” and I’ll send you my Root Cause Quiz! If your jaw feels stiff, clicks, or shifts when you open, the problem might not just be tightness—it could be limited side-to-side movement. 💡 What’s happening? Your jaw should be able to move side to side about 25% of how wide you can open. When you open your mouth, the joint first rotates, then translates (slides forward). Many people with pain or stiffness struggle with that forward movement. 🔥 Why this matters If your jaw can’t translate properly, opening becomes restricted or uneven. Instead of moving smoothly, the joint compensates. This leads to clicking, shifting, or discomfort. So let’s work on side-to-side motion to help restore the missing translation. 🛠️ Exercises to improve jaw mobility 1️⃣ Lateral shifts (range of motion) Place a pen or pencil between your teeth and shift your jaw fully side to side. Focus on smooth, controlled movement to restore full range. 2️⃣ Resisted open + shift Add light resistance with your fingers as you shift side to side while opening your mouth. Then resist as you close. This builds control through the full motion. 3️⃣ Diagonal resisted movement Shift your jaw to one side while opening against resistance. This combines side-to-side and opening movement to fully train the joint. Repeat on both sides. Restoring this movement helps your jaw open more smoothly, reduces compensation, and can decrease clicking and discomfort. If you want help figuring out the exact root cause of your jaw pain, comment “QUIZ” on this video and I’ll send you my Root Cause Quiz. #jawpain #tmj #jawexercises #mobility #physicaltherapy

Your jaw has been clenching since before you even noticed. A tight masseter pulls your jawline down, creates asymmetry, and accelerates aging - on one side more than the other Save this, do it daily and your face starts to remember what relaxed feels like 🫠 👉 Want deeper release? Everyone has a TMJ. Two of them, actually. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint — it’s just the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. Saying “I have TMJ” is like saying “I have a knee.” Yes. You do. So does everyone else. What you actually have, or might have, is TMD. Temporomandibular disorder. That’s the dysfunction. The pain, the clicking, the locking, the headaches, the clenching, the grinding that’s slowly wearing your teeth down while you sleep. And here’s where it gets interesting: TMD is rarely just a jaw problem. It’s connected to airway. To sleep. To posture. To how your bite developed over years, or decades. To nervous system patterns you’ve been running since childhood. So what has your dentist actually done about it? Sent you to a chiropractor? Given you a nightguard? Offered Botox injections? Maybe. Those things might take the edge off. But did they ever diagnose the problem with real data? Beyond bite paper what did they actually measure? Bite paper tells you where your teeth are touching. It doesn’t tell you how much force, which muscles are compensating, or what’s actually driving the dysfunction. At Vios, we use T-Scan and EMG together … bite force technology and muscle activity mapping to see what’s actually happening in real time. Not guessing. Not assuming. Diagnosing. There’s a difference between managing a problem and understanding it. We’re interested in the second one. This is why you have a clicking noise in your jaw 😨👇 That “click” usually comes from your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) — the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. Inside that joint is a small disc that helps your jaw move smoothly. If the disc slips slightly out of place, your jaw can “pop” or “click” when you open or close your mouth. Common causes: • Teeth grinding (especially at night) • Jaw clenching from stress • Chewing gum too much • Nail biting • Sleeping on your jaw • Misaligned bite If it’s painless, it’s often harmless. But if you have pain, locking, headaches, or difficulty opening your mouth — it could be TMJ disorder and you should get it checked. Your jaw isn’t “breaking” — it’s just moving out of sync. 🦷✨ . . . . .. DM for credit. / Removal #TMJ #JawClicking #JawPain #TeethGrinding #sp

Your jaw might be overcompensating for a weak core. That’s why I work on this deep jaw muscle for more than jaw pain. This is the medial pterygoid. When the body is missing stability, the jaw can become a compensator because the neurology for the jaw is closely tied to the neurology for motor control. So what happens? The jaw starts compressing. The head gets pulled forward. The neck and face stay tense. The core does less. The hamstrings work harder to help protect the spine. Then when that overworking jaw muscle relaxes, the core can start turning back on again. And when the core starts doing its job, the hamstrings can finally back off. That’s why this is not just a jaw release. Sometimes it changes the whole pattern. #jawpain #tmj #posture #hamstrings #motorcontrol

Your jaw is usually the first place your body stores tension when life gets heavy. 🤐 @garrylineham works with a woman to facilitate a deep Jaw Release. You can see the exact moment her system finally feels safe enough to let go. It’s not just about the face—when the jaw unlocks, it sends a signal to the rest of the body that it’s okay to exhale. 🌊 ㅤ If you feel like you’re constantly clenching or holding your breath, your body is looking for a way to reset. This maneuver is the fastest way to start that process. ⛩️ ㅤ Do you want to try this maneuver for yourself? 👇 ㅤ Comment JAW and we’ll DM you the tutorial! 🚀 ㅤ #humangarage #fascialmaneuvers #jawrelease #tmj #stressrelief #selfhealing #nervoussystem

LeAnn Rimes cried during this jaw release. And now you know why. The muscle being released is called the medial pterygoid. It’s a deep jaw muscle. 💬 Comment TRAPS for my viral upper trap release at home. 💬 Comment DESK for my viral desk stretch. Want both? You have to comment these words in two separate comments for the automation to work. Research shows that trigger points in masticatory muscles, including the medial pterygoid, are strongly associated with TMJ disorders, jaw pain, and headaches (Fernández-de-las-Peñas et al., 2010). A 2024 randomized controlled trial confirmed that massage therapy targeting jaw muscles significantly reduces TMJ pain and improves function (Tariq et al., 2024). Why it gets tight: Stress. Jaw clenching. Teeth grinding. Forward head posture from sitting and screen time. How to release it yourself: 1. Wash your hands or wear a glove 2. Open your mouth halfway 3. Follow your lower teeth all the way back with your index finger 4. You’ll feel a firm muscle on the inside of your jaw angle 5. Press gently outward towards your ear 6. Hold steady pressure for 30-60 seconds 7. The muscle should soften under your finger This isn’t for everyone: If you have severe TMJ dysfunction, recent jaw surgery, or acute jaw injury, don’t do this. Speak to your doctor or dentist first. This is a temporary release. If jaw tension keeps coming back, the problem is usually stress, teeth grinding, or posture. Address the cause, not just the symptom. 📌 Disclaimer: This is for education only. I’m not diagnosing or treating any jaw condition or TMJ disorder. If you have persistent jaw pain, TMJ issues, or difficulty opening your mouth, speak to your doctor or dentist. References: • Fernández-de-las-Peñas, C. et al. (2010). You don’t have to tell me what happened to your body. I’ll figure it out🕵🏼 Took a hit to the face at footy… came in for “just the jaw” 👀 But the body and nervous system always tells a bigger story. Even when you don’t mention it, I’m assessing everything… and in this case we picked up that his head took impact too 🧠 That changes how the jaw, neck, and nervous system all interact. Some of today’s session included: ✨ Jaw (TMJ) adjustment ✨ Neck (Cervical) adjustment because your neck function and nerves directly influence jaw function ✨ Muscle (pterygoid) release as the muscle inside the jaw holds SO much tension after impact This is exactly why a thorough assessment matters. Not just chasing symptoms… but understanding what actually happened to the body. Because prevention and long-term maintenance isn’t about guessing… it’s about catching what gets missed, even before you feel it 🤍 Your body doesn’t lie… and you can’t keep anything from us 😉 #chiropractor #chiro #chiropractic #tmj #wellness #health #fyp #reel #adjustment #explore #explorepage #jaw #jawpain #neck
