MORE INFO ⬇️ The other day I was at an appt w/ my youngest & we decided to stop in to cool off @torontolibrary. It was the best decision S WALTER STEWART LIBRARY 📍170 MEMORIAL PARK AVE, E. York, Toronto ACCESS Small parking lot & street parking. TTC accessible but a bit of a trek fr. the subway & bus stop AMENITIES This is the only free sensory room w/ Toronto Public Library. There are community sensory services some which have a fee to them The library’s has 📕 Sensory Room (30-60 min bookings same day or in advance, open birth to 12 w/ parent)- has an image projector, fibre optic wall carpet, soft seating/mats, tactile elements like a heat sensitive colour change pads, balancing/rocking equip’t & more 📕Large kid’s section 📕Kids Stop w/ rocket ship, interactive toys/wall displays & large books The also have the summer reading club fr. June to August Generally the library also has ⭐️Clean washrooms ⭐️Auditorium ⭐️Seating area w/ vending machines EXPERIENCE This is the first time I’ve taken my kid to a sensory room & I recommend trying it. It was clean & well kept & we spent a quiet 30 mins in it. While these are made to assist w/ those who have sensory processing needs, I instantly saw how much calmer I was & my kid — a nice break in a very chaotic day While not as comprehensive as other Snozelen rooms, it is free & a nice amenity esp. for those when quiet spaces are needed The Kids Stop while well loved was still enjoyed w/ all the parts working & intact. The book collection was great & my kiddo enjoyed reading them in the 1hr we spent there CONSIDERATIONS 🤔 Small green area by the library but I didn’t see a playground/splashpad 🤔 For food, there are a few shops in walking distance (~700m) on Coxwell 🤔 The TPL website currently has a survey to help make the sensory room better OVERALL If you live on the east end of Toronto, this library is a great place to spend some time #torontolibrary #sensoryprocessing #kidsactivities #torontomoms #eastyorkmoms #summeractivitiesforkids #budgetfriendly #thingstodowithkids #todotoronto
