Indian star tortoises may be quiet, but they have their own way of “talking” using body language. Watching these small movements helps us understand how they feel and what they need. 🔎 Common Behaviors & What They Mean: 👤 Head Bobbing: A slow head movement, usually when they see another tortoise. It can mean “I see you” or “Who are you?” 🐚 Shell Nudging: They gently push things or each other with their head or shell. This is how they explore or say hello. It’s not aggressive, just curious. 🦵 Limb Position: If a tortoise stretches its legs and lies flat, it feels safe and relaxed. But if it pulls in its head and legs, it might be scared or stressed. 🧊 Freezing (Not Moving): When they stop moving suddenly, it’s a natural way to stay safe—like hiding from danger. In captivity, this can happen if something startles them. 🌿 Feeling Their Environment: They use their legs and shell to feel around and understand the space. It’s like how we use our hands or feet to test the ground. ✅ Why This Matters: By watching these signs, we can know if our tortoise is happy, scared, or stressed. It helps us give them better care and a safe, comfortable home. #IndianStarTortoise #TortoiseFacts #TortoiseCare #ReptileBehavior #TortoiseKeeper #GeocheloneElegans #ReptileLove #AnimalCommunication

If you answered no to any of these question then you should NOT get a tortoise. 🚫🐢 Tortoises are such a huge commitment. They grow to be SO big and need a lot of outdoor space to roam (Fig will weigh 50-80lbs one day.) They are VERY sensitive to temperature, humidity levels, lighting in general & easily develop health issues if any of these aren’t perfect especially while they’re young. Some species are known to dig deep 15ft burrows underground and can do it to your house, fences, etc. They need a salad the size of their shell everyday so once they do get large that’s A LOTTTT of food! They are absolutely wonderful pets, so smart, have amazing personalities, but are one of the hardest pets to own so please consider this. 🙏 Do you think a tortoise is the right pet for you? . . . . . . . • • • • • #reptile #reptilesofinstagram #reptiles #tortoise #lizard #exoticpets #lizardsofinstagram #exoticpet #pets #tortoises #tortoisesofinstagram #animalplanet #sulcata #reptilesofig #herpetology #instapets
