What’s your opinion on tourists? Do you like them? Love them? Or nah 😒 lol. I’m conflicted, because tourism is essential to the economy of so many places around the world, but then I also don’t like when places cater too much to tourists, like I came here to see YOUR culture, not my own. And then the more toursim there is, the more prices rise for locals like the rents here in Tromsø. To the point where you can’t even find rent in Tromsø because everyone wants to do AirBnb and make 4x the money renting daily and weekly to tourists. I’ve seen SO many changes in Tromsø since I first came here 5 years ago in 2021, I can’t even imagine what people feel like that have been here since the 80’s and 90’s and beyond… Look, I know tourism brings in the money, but tourists can be so darn annoying. I stressed over what to pack for Italy and as I walked around Rome this is what I saw people wearing. Dress etiquette for churches and nice dinners is a real thing. So, If your not wanting to blend in as an Italian. Please hear the full story ‼️ Three of us (tourists) paid separately for a 15-minute lion interaction (which means photos videos etc.) One of us is over 60 years old. @srikanthps2001 @rollininthekitchen_123 We followed every instruction given. 🙏 Within about five minutes of playtime with the lion, we were asked to leave by the staff handling the lion. When I requested the time we had paid for, we were told the lion was “aggressive.” To demonstrate that, the handler hit the lion with a stick. Any animal will react when hit. It’s obvious!! We stepped out because we did not want to escalate anything while having lions around, and I hence raised this at the front desk. The front desk understood the concern and sent us back in to complete our paid session. When we returned in the lions cage, the atmosphere had clearly changed (with the staff). While I was explaining the type of photos we wanted, the handler rudely pushed my arm aside. Then he pushed my back with the same stick used on the lion. It happened more than once. He said, in a harsh tone, “You want more picture? Come.” This is not a domesticated environment. It is a wildlife enclosure. Being physically pushed inside by someone who is also striking the animal is not just disrespectful. It is unsafe. I stepped out shaking and did not do any of the pictures again. The main counter staff noticed my reaction and offered more pictures. I refused. Coz I could not risk going back inside with a handler who was visibly angry and physically aggressive. No visitor should be treated like this. No animal should be handled like that either. If there is CCTV footage, it will show exactly what happened. I am sharing this so others are aware before choosing this experience. Safety and Respect are not optional. And no photograph is worth being pushed into danger. #tourists
