This is our son, Jude. They are transgender. Jude would like you to understand how important pronouns are & has been asking me to share this decision adamantly. Naturally, I want to protect our children from anything that makes them more vulnerable. We are very fortunate to be supported by loving teachers, empathetic staff and parents who are all willing and dedicated to Jude's success. In addition, they have made sure other students are considered while we navigate certain gender circumstances. Which bunk does my child stay in? Boys? Girls? What about anatomy? What about people who don't get it? What if someone says something mean? What if, what if, what if. I have take this time to stop considering the opinions of those who aren't rooted in our garden. I like to speak in metaphors or analogies... but let me be crystal clear. Jude is loved and supported. Unless you are his parent, his gender affirmations aren't complicated. EVERYTHING IS FIGURE-OUTABLE. From the beginning , I made a promise to love my child regardless of their chromosomes. 🙏🥰 ...I didn't know what Jude's gender was during our pregnancy. I wanted to be surprised (and boy was I) at slightly different timing than I planned. That's kinda the gist of parenting. Unplanned challenges. After all that we have endured as a family, honestly a trans child is not much of an adjustment. It's simply a different noise, or sound - referring to the same person I've always loved. I will always fight for my son's life, and advocate for Jude's safety as a child growing into an adult world. I've already anticipated negative feedback from sharing this. Please surprise me, with your love and affection for JUDE. They are who matters in this mess of adult debates. Please consider the human being you've always loved. If you can't honor Jude, their pronouns or if you have the ✨ slightest ✨ feeling that you can't support my son or our family .. here is your sign 🪧. Every first Sunday of November (so today, Sunday, November 5, 2023) is National Trans Parent Day! 🏳️‍⚧️ This holiday was established in 2009 and celebrates trans parents and trans families, as well as provides a non-gendered option for trans parents to celebrate their parenthood. ⭐️ It’s important to note that many trans parents do feel seen within the binary options of man and woman / Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. But other trans people don’t — particularly those whose genders fall within the non-binary umbrella. Trans people are not a monolith, and everyone in this community will have a different relationship to binary gender options, and even to the word transgender itself. That’s okay!
