Before you leave the country, make sure you do these three steps to improve your safety and security. 1️⃣ Take a photo of the back page of your passport, which includes the bar code. Hide this on your phone in a hidden folder for security. If you lose your passport, this bar code can help expedite its replacement at the embassy. 2️⃣ Enroll in the State Department Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP will email you alerts and travel advisories in the event of terrorism, health, weather, or other disasters. In the event of something more serious, they will also know that you are there. You can opt for just travel messages or enroll your time abroad. 3️⃣ Save the phone number of the US Embassy in the country or countries you’ll be visiting. If you need to reach the embassy, you’ll want the phone number saved so you don’t have to look it up under duress. When traveling internationally, *always* sign up for the @statedept STEP program so you can get critical alerts on your destination. I also recommend looking up and storing the local embassy contact and emergency number before you travel. Hopefully you never need it, but if you do, you’ll be so glad you have it.

Please please PLEASE share this video with every single traveler you know. The US Department of State has a FREE registration process so you can tell them where you are going and how the can help you if you are in trouble. They also will send you Notifcations while you are overseas to alert you of things like protests, safety concerns, etc. Our family has used this multiple times and will continue to use it while we travel.
