Are you taking a summer vacation this year?  Mr Babs and I are headed to the Midwest - back to our roots - to see family and friends and have some fun along the way.  I also have a big surprise waiting for me in Chicago tomorrow…. Can you guess what it is?   Well…to get me (and you) there on time and with less stress, here are my top three travel tips when flying✈️   1. To get up to the minute flight information and even find out what baggage claim your luggage will arrive at, just text yourself (or anyone for that matter) your flight number.  Then just click on number and you can instantly track your flight, find out if it is on time, which gate you are departing from and even which luggage carousel to check when you land. 2. When you park in an airport parking lot, take a picture of where you park at the airport.  Is there anything worse than walking in circles after you land, looking for your car when all you want to do is get home?! 3. When entering security remember…”stay to the left”  Most people are right handed and subconsciously choose to turn right when given a choice.  Choose left and avoid longer lines.   No matter how long the lines are or how delayed  your flight is, just arrive safely and enjoy yourself! #vacation #traveltips

Have you done this? 💸 After 7 years of full-time travel, we’ve seen it again and again - small mistakes that look harmless but drain your wallet fast. …Like the woman in front of me who just chose to overpay for all of her food and drinks (and airport food is already so expensive!). Here are a few that catch people off guard (she made mistake #5): ❌ 1. Booking flights too early Feels responsible, right? But airlines constantly adjust fares. Book too soon and you’ll likely overpay. For international trips, 6–8 weeks before departure is usually the sweet spot. ❌ 2. Relying on “free” WiFi That café or airport WiFi isn’t really free. It’s unreliable, risky, and can trigger roaming charges when your phone reconnects mid-load. We’ve seen people rack up $100+ before realizing it. Use an eSIM and VPN instead - cheap, fast, and secure. ❌ 3. Assuming your credit card insurance covers everything Most cards only protect small stuff - not medical emergencies, cancellations, or evacuations. Always check what’s actually covered or buy separate travel insurance. ❌ 4. Booking through third-party sites Those “deals” disappear once you add seats, bags, or hit a delay. If your flight’s canceled, the airline won’t help - you’re the booking site’s customer, not theirs. Always book direct. ❌ 5. Paying in your own currency abroad When a store or ATM asks “Pay in USD?”, say no. That bottle of water just got 10–13% more expensive thanks to hidden conversion fees. Always pay in local currency for the fair exchange rate. 💡 The truth: Most travelers lose money on small habits, not big mistakes.
