In 2022, a group of thrill-seekers filmed themselves cliff diving from an abandoned oil rig off the coast of Louisiana. What was supposed to be a routine jump turned into a mystery still unsolved today. This clip was recovered from a GoPro that washed up weeks later near Port Fourchon. The jumper, identified as 27-year-old Matthew K., has been missing since. Local fishermen and marine biologists have long warned that abandoned oil rigs create unnatural ecosystems. These rigs attract massive schools of fish, which in turn attract apex predators like tiger sharks and great whites. In fact, satellite tracking shows that some of the world’s largest great whites frequent these waters, drawn by the constant supply of prey and the rig’s structure which mimics deepwater hunting grounds. Matt’s final footage abruptly cuts to what appears to be a large white figure approaching at speed just below the surface. Experts analyzing the video believe it was a mature great white, potentially 15-18 feet long. No further trace of Matt was ever found.
