Tunnelling in the deep! ⬇️🌊 TBMs Jessie and Ruby have both achieved a major milestone on the Sydney Metro project, tunnelling 35 metres under the water’s surface to pass beneath the deepest point of the railway alignment under Darling Harbour. This section is the last of the challenging harbour crossings for the TBM drives. The slurry TBMs were cutting through a mix of hard and soft rock beneath the Harbour and at high water pressure, which means they’ve had to tunnel at a much slower pace than traditional open-style Sydney Metro tunnel boring machines. No matter the conditions, our world-class tunnelling team is getting the job done. Each TBM now has less than 700 metres of tunnel left to build to reach their final destination at the future Hunter Street metro station in the heart of the Sydney CBD. The TBMs will continue their journey under some of Sydney’s most iconic streets, including York, George and Pitt streets and pass underneath Wynyard Station to reach the Hunter Street station cavern. Track laying and station construction will follow, bringing Sydney another step closer to the opening of the new line. Mary Ann, our giant tunnel boring machine (TBM), is being stripped down ready to take on her next tunnelling adventure! The cutterhead, which weighs a whopping 120 tonnes, was expertly lifted out of the 22-metre-deep tunnel portal at Washwood Heath in north Birmingham in just 90 minutes. 🇦🇺🏗️ Milestone Lift in Australia!   Both of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cutterheads have been successfully lowered into place at our North East Link Project in Melbourne! Each of these massive cutterheads weighs over 400 tonnes. 🏗️ Progetto Unico Terzo Valico dei Giovi - Nodo di Genova: scavati 86,5 km di galleria sugli oltre 90 km totali 💪 Nel cuore dell’Appennino ligure, l'abbattimento del diaframma sulla tratta Castagnola-Vallemme del Tunnel di Valico – la galleria ferroviaria che, con circa 27 km per ciascun binario, sarà la più lunga d'#Italia – ha portato l'opera a superare i 50 km di scavi completati su 54 km totali, avvicinandosi così alla sua conclusione. Un passo importante verso il completamento di un'infrastruttura strategica per potenziare il collegamento ferroviario veloce tra Genova e Milano. Completato circa il 94% degli scavi in galleria sull'intero tracciato, per un'opera che amplifica lo sviluppo. 👷‍♀️👷 Il #breakthrough ha rappresentato il culmine della giornata di celebrazioni per #SantaBarbara, patrona dei minatori e di chi lavora in sotterraneo, tenutasi all'interno del Camerone del Tunnel di Valico.
