Ep.3 Turon Baklava Ingredients: 5 large ripe Plantains 2 (20 oz) Canned Jackfruit in Syrup 1 tsp kosher salt Water if needed Phyllo Dough 2.5- 3 sticks melted butter Syrup: 3/4 Cup Water 1 Cup Brown Sugar 1/2 Cup Honey 2 Tbsp Calamansi Juice Instructions: 1. Cut the plantains into cubes and place in a pan. Add the jackfruit and syrup and simmer for 45 minutes in low heat. Make sure to stir every 5-10 minutes to avoid burning. Let it cool down completely. 2. Grab an oven safe baking pan and brush with melted butter. Then place the phyllo sheets and brush the layers in butter. Then place the plantains-jackfruit filling. Then place the 2nd sleeve of phyllo dough brushing every layers as well. 3. Bake for 1 hour at 350 F. 4. While the Turon is baking, make the syrup by adding the ingredients listed above in a pot, and let it simmer for 4 minutes. Then let it cool down completely. 5. Once it’s done baking, drizzle the syrup as soon as it comes out the oven. 6. Let it sit for 4-6 hours to let the syrup soak in the Turon. 7.
