POV: You’re swimming with the friendliest sea turtles on the Great Barrier Reef! I never position myself in front of a moving turtle, however this one was in a rush to get to the nearby turtle cleaning station! It made a sharp 90 degree turn towards me and swam towards some cleaner fish behind me. When sea turtle hatchlings break out of their eggs on the beach, they’re completely on their own — no parents around at all. To find the ocean in the dark, they instinctively crawl toward the brightest horizon. In nature, that’s usually the moonlight or starlight reflecting off the water.

Sea turtles are fascinating creatures known for their long migrations and unique feeding habits. One of the most interesting aspects of their diet is their preference for jellyfish 🪼🐢 With their sharp beaks, sea turtles are able to consume these gelatinous animals, which many other creatures avoid due to their sting. In fact, some species of sea turtles, like the leatherback, have evolved specifically to feed on jellyfish, with specialised adaptations like a leathery throat and esophagus to handle the slippery, often toxic creatures.
