If you think you have the flu, getting care early can help you start feeling better sooner. Flu viruses are still circulating in many communities. We’re now seeing more Influenza B cases locally, while Influenza A continues to circulate as well. Fever, body aches, cough, fatigue and sore throat can come on quickly and leave you feeling drained. The good news is that evaluation and treatment options are available, especially when addressed early. In this week’s What’s Going Around, Dr. Timothy Hendrix shares what he’s seeing locally, common flu symptoms and when it’s time to be evaluated. At AdventHealth Centra Care, we care for your whole health, body, mind and spirit, with convenient urgent care when you need it most.

Stay healthy, miss fewer days and keep doing what you love this season. Three simple ways to help prevent the flu: wash your hands, get your flu shot and get enough sleep. Centra Care is here to support your whole health when you need care that fits your life.

The flu typically begins abruptly. Patients often describe feeling “hit by a truck.” #Influenza #FluSeason #PublicHealth #PreventTheFlu

Let’s talk about the difference between Flu A and Flu B! First of all they are completely different strains of influenza, with Flu A – also referred to as “the super flu” – usually showing up in the beginning of the season with Flu B appearing later on. Right now, we are seeing less cases of Flu A and an increase in Flu B; however, what is interesting this year is that many cases of Flu B are mild and don’t show up on home tests until a few days later. So if you think you might have the flu, it is important to retake a home test after 24 hrs if it first shows up negative, or go to your doctor’s office or urgent care for a more sensitive test. The faster you know if you have the flu, the faster you can get better and protect others! #flua #flub #influenza

🦠 Influenza (Flu) A common viral illness with potentially serious consequences Influenza is an acute viral respiratory infection that spreads rapidly and affects millions every year—often underestimated, yet clinically significant. 🔹 Key Symptoms: • Sudden fever and chills • Cough, sore throat, nasal congestion • Myalgia, headache, extreme fatigue 🔹 Why it matters: • Can lead to severe complications (pneumonia, respiratory failure) • Higher risk in elderly, pregnant women, children, and immunocompromised patients • Major cause of seasonal morbidity and mortality 🔹 Management & Prevention: • Supportive care (antipyretics, hydration, rest) • Antivirals (e.g., oseltamivir) when indicated • Annual vaccination remains the most effective preventive strategy ⚠️ Clinical Reminder: Antibiotics have no role in uncomplicated influenza unless secondary bacterial infection is suspected.
