🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 U.S. INTELLIGENCE SAID IRAN PROTESTS WEREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO THREATEN REGIME. NOW THEY'RE REASSESSING U.S. intelligence assessed Iran protests lacked "sufficient energy" to challenge regime stability, officials told Axios. That assessment is now being revised "in light of recent events." Recent events: 100+ cities protesting. Protesters breaking Ayatollahs' compound gates. IRGC shooting people after prayers. Total internet blackout. Competing massacre claims. So U.S. intelligence watched protests spread nationwide, monitored escalation to anti-regime chants, and concluded: not threatening. Then something happened that made them reconsider. What changed? We don't know. But reassessment itself reveals U.S. wasn't expecting this escalation. Could be: Violence exceeded predictions. Security forces showing cracks. Protesters attacking religious authority structures crossed threshold analysts didn't anticipate. Or classified intelligence suggesting regime more fragile than visible evidence shows. U.S. intelligence getting Iran wrong wouldn't be unprecedented. Missed 1979 revolution until it happened. The reassessment tells us: Whatever's happening behind Iran's blackout is significant enough that U.S. analysts are revising stability models. Whether regime's about to collapse or crushing protests so violently it changes regional calculations - both trigger reassessment. Source: Axios

Thoughts? A suspect in the #NewYorkCity terror protest attack near Gracie Mansion, the residence of #MayorZohranMamdani, allegedly planned an assault “bigger than the Boston Marathon bombing,” federal prosecutors said in a criminal complaint Monday. Emir Balat allegedly made the statement after his arrest. Prosecutors say he told investigators that he and co-defendant Ibrahim Kayumi wanted to stage an attack exceeding the 2013 bombing that killed three people and injured more than 500 others. The complaint alleges that on Saturday, Balat and Kayumi attempted to detonate two apparent explosive devices during a “Stop the #IslamicTakeover of New York City” protest and counter-protest near Mamdani’s residence. Preliminary testing indicates that at least one device contained triacetone triperoxide (TATP), a highly volatile explosive used in multiple terrorist attacks over the past decade. Both men allegedly made statements referencing ISIS, with Kayumi captured on NYPD bodycam footage responding “ISIS” when asked why he carried out the attack, according to the complaint. Prosecutors said Balat also later wrote on a piece of paper that he “pledge[d] allegiance [sic] to the Islamic State.” The two defendants face five federal charges: attempted provision of material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization; use of a weapon of mass destruction; transportation of explosive materials; interstate transportation and receipt of explosives; and unlawful possession of destructive devices. ✋🏾More in comments👇🏾
