Pterygium and pinguecula are two weird bumps that can grow on the white part of your eye. The pterygium looks like a fleshy patch on the surface of your eye, and it can be any size. The pinguecula looks like a yellowish bump on the white part of your eye. ✅These conditions aren’t cancerous (benign) and have a good prognosis with treatment. 👀In many cases, the pinguecula doesn’t cause any symptoms, but sometimes it can get really inflamed and cause pingueculitis, which makes your eye red and uncomfortable. 👀The pterygium is usually asymptomatic in its early stages, but when it develops, it usually causes eye discomfort and occasional 🔴redness. In addition, growing on the cornea can change its shape, causing 🤓👓vision problems, or if it reaches the visual axis, your vision can be significantly reduced 👀An eye exam is usually enough to spot a pterygium or pinguecula. Rarely, you might need to have a biopsy and look at it under a 🔬microscope to make sure it’s not something else that could be cancerous. ✅Pterygium and pinguecula often develop because of too much exposure to ultraviolet rays. ☀️☀️It’s also more common in people who are exposed to irritants like 💨dust and sawdust.
