❌❌❌Vascular Occlusion❌❌❌   An occlusion can occur when a dermal filler is inadvertently injected into a blood vessel/artery. This can block the blood flow needed to supply the tissue. This can occur very quickly or can be a later onset.  I am sharing my story as this can occur to any injector at any time.  I was injected in the chin area and suffered a vascular occlusion.  I was injected with a 27g needle. The area of blanching occurred within seconds, then discoloration, followed by pain within minutes. ✨My occlusion protocol ✨ Immediately, we followed protocol and began injecting Hylenex (an enzyme used to dissolve hyaluroninc acid.) I took ASA, began massaging and applied warm compresses. A total of 7 vials of Hylenex were used (not all at once). Used Red light therapy- I had immediate access to this Kimera red light therapy device from a colleague of mine. This applied heat to the site and increased the blood flow to the area with red and infra red light.   Applied ReForm and RePair by @alastinskincare for 5 days. This product has InHance, TransFORM body and Nectar with Tri Hex technology, ALL in one. This product calms the skin, helps reduce bruising and improves skin texture. This week @lifted.by.Lindsay did lip injections on a client with beautiful results and no visible bruising. They discussed symptoms of a vascular occlusion and what to watch for at home. The client contacted her that same day with significant bruising. Her capillary refill on the right upper lip was 3+ seconds showing some vascular compromise. With heat, massage and Aspirin, we were able to improve her capillary refill to 1 second. This took close monitoring, FaceTime and seeing the client the following day to insure her vasculature was improving. Education is KEY! There is no way to help your client if they don’t know what to look for. We are so grateful to @catmarini for reaching out and her close eye on her symptoms. Her swelling and pain were also never significant also giving us a sign this was not a true vascular occlusion. Comments and questions 👇?!
