Metal board and batten. Pretty easy stuff for us to install. I can’t tell if it’s metal or wood after it’s up. What do y’all think?

I know that I had no idea how many styles and options there were for board and batten siding. 😅So if you’re anything like me and are feeling lost in all the possibilities, here’s all the info on our siding! 👇🏼 Our siding is Hardie Panel Vertical Siding (Cedarmill texture) with 3.5” trim pieces. The trim pieces are spaced 24” inches apart (from the center of one trim piece to the center of the next trim piece.) The trim around our windows is 5.5” wide. We painted our siding Snowbound by Sherwin Williams! I chose Snowbound because it wasn’t a stark white, but it still looked good in the snow. I found that creamier whites look dingy in the snkw (or any time it storms) and considering we have potential for snow almost half of the year, I didn’t want to risk that. 😂 Snowbound has gray undertones, whereas other popular colors like Alabaster or White Duck have more yellow undertones. So the cool tone of Snowbound compliments the cool tones of the snow or gray clouds. Then we warmed up our exterior with our wood beams and wood doors! Hanging vertical siding alone isn’t always the easiest. I’ve done 12’ tall sections before. This video shows a 10’ piece being installed. I considered it a bonus to have a mini roofline to be able to walk on to be able to nail off the lower section below the plank. If that roofline wasn’t there, I’d put kneepads on and kneel on the plank and I’d be able to reach down with the nailer to nail of the portion below the plank. I see many vertical sections of siding buckling in my city. I believe most installers don’t leave enough room for expansion, or they don’t hang the siding from the top nail. Vertical siding should have about 1/4” room to the top J and about 3/8” of room to expand down. This is according to the Vinyl Siding Institute. To the average person - this seems crazy as you’re cutting the piece almost a full inch short. This is to ensure the pieces can lay flat for the life of the house. In the summer you can leave less room as the pieces will shrink in the winter.
