Worked alongside Vet Natalia this morning neutering strays and an afternoon at a rescue centre for dogs, cats and horses impacted by the war. So much life is affected by this needless conflict, as animals and people lose their homes, their loved ones and sometimes their lives. 1. I still look up drug dosages—just to double check. Because safe medicine isn’t about memorisation. It’s about making sure you never get complacent. 2. I’ve cried in the car after a euthanasia. Some patients just stay with you. And sometimes, the grief isn’t only the client’s. 3. I’ve eaten lunch at 4:30pm standing over a keyboard. It was cold, it was rushed, and I’m pretty sure it was meant for the nurses. But survival is survival. 4. I’ve been peed on mid-consult and kept going. Did I flinch? Yes. Did I finish the rectal exam? Also yes. 5. I’ve stayed up thinking about cases I couldn’t fix. Even when I know I did my best. The hard ones still echo. 6. I talk to my patients like they’re people (because they kind of are). They get the gentle voice, the updates, the “you’re doing so well” Every single time. 7. I’m a practice owner, and I still clean up vomit, mop floors, and take the bins out. Because leadership isn’t about being above it—it’s about being in it, with your team, every single day. 8. I’ve called a client just to say “I was thinking about you and your pet.” No medical update. Just kindness. 9. I’m still learning. Every single day. From textbooks, from colleagues, from my patients—and sometimes, from my mistakes. 10. I’m proud of the vet I’ve become. Not because I know everything.
