This initiative helps control street dog population humanely, prevents rabies, and ensures healthier lives for community dogs. 📌 Feeders’ Role: Bring your community dogs to our shelter and take them back after recovery. 🏥 Our Responsibility: Surgery, post-operative care, rabies vaccination, and medical monitoring. ⚠️ This program is only for ownerless street dogs (not pets). With careful planning and coordination, Ms. Shruti of TNAWB has taken a strategic step towards reducing the street animal population in Tamil Nadu, while keeping the welfare of animals and the community in mind. TNAWB has collaborated with four animal shelters across the state to provide free sterilisation (ABC) surgeries for street dogs. The shelters under this initiative are: • MARS Shelter - Chengalpet • BMAD - Chennai • HAS - Coimbatore • Safe Home Foundation - Madurai Verified animal rescuers can schedule appointments and bring street dogs from their areas for sterilisation. At these shelters, dogs receive quality care from compassionate individuals experienced in animal welfare. Surgeries are performed in clean, sterile environments, following proper medical protocols. By working with multiple shelters across different regions, this initiative helps cover a larger population and strengthens the network of rescuers — completely free of cost. Animal Birth Control (ABC) is the most humane and effective way to control street dog population, reduce human–animal conflict, and improve life for both animals and the community. Astro is a community dog — not a stray. He belongs to the neighbourhood he grew up in. After being taken by Tambaram Corporation for ABC, Astro went missing. But the community did not forget him. Residents, feeders and a reporter searched tirelessly for him, treating him like a missing member of their own community. In a powerful act of care, the reporter tore pieces of his own shirt and placed them near the pound and around the area, hoping Astro would recognise the scent and find his way back. Displacement causes immense stress, fear, confusion, and trauma to community dogs. They rely on familiar people, smells, and surroundings to survive. After 7 long days, Astro was finally found and brought back to the area he belongs to safe, home, and loved. Heartfelt thanks to the reporter and everyone who came together to search for Astro and bring him home.
