A few weeks ago we introduced our newest project which is to Frankenstein a Honda D17A2 (EM2 Motor) into an EG hatch. Before we finish up the D17, we decided to throw in a stock D16Z6 and take the car to the drag strip to get a baseline 1/4 mile time. The whole goal of the D17 setup is to see if we can improve upon the SOHC platform (and to have fun) so it makes sense for us to know what the car is capable of with a stock D16 first. Does this add a bit of complexity to the project? Yes absolutely. But it’s all in the name of science. As for the B Series that came out of the car… it is a B16 bottom end with an LS cylinder head. It runs and drives great and was a successful first attempt at putting a non VTEC head on a B16. We will continue to develop this engine in the future, but it’s time to have some fun going slow.
